My name is Sarah Newburn. I’m originally from Lancashire and now live in Cumbria.
I started painting and writing while I was at school, and have created in one form or another ever since, through my teens and during my time at Leeds University. Although I’ve always loved it, life and work in Cumbria meant there were periods where my creative practice slipped into the background.
After “finishing” the intense work of raising my family (three children), I found my way back to creating, partly by bringing down the guitars from the loft, and partly by picking up writing again during lockdown in 2021. Joining a writing group gave me the space to develop my work and begin sharing it, including performing some of it publicly.
Performance doesn’t come naturally to me, it’s the writing that I truly love. Sharing work that comes from your head and heart can feel vulnerable and unfamiliar, and it’s something I’m still learning to be comfortable with. But if I’m going to put myself out there, then I need to actually put myself out there.
So here, in this small corner of the internet, is a little piece of me 💙 my head, my heart, and my truth.
Keep creating.
