I’ve been writing music since I was young. I learned to read music during my clarinet lessons in pimary school, and picked up the guitar in my teens. I wouldn’t call myself a strong instrumentalist, but I’ve always loved writing, especially poems and lyrics that find their way into music.
Over time, I’ve branched out into ukulele, acoustic and electric guitar, and piano… I even have a banjo. For me, it’s never really been about mastering an instrument, it’s about creating, experimenting, and following ideas wherever they lead.
I won't be told again, to quiet my voice again. No one is gonna hold me down.
Can you see me? Really see me? It's my turn so don't make a fucking sound.
*You throw the first punch but I'm used to the pain.
Keep it coming cos I'm gonna rise up again. You have no idea what I can do.
All you've thought about is...
...you had your hand firmly covering up my light
Time to let dark go, I've found my sight.
I can see you so clearly.*
I won't be told again, I don't know anything. Cos I know it's gotta be better than this.
You're not worth my tears. No longer hold my fears. You really have taken the fucking piss.
*Can you see me?
Hidden in the smoke, I was lost for a while.
Forgot how to feel, or what was real.
Then I saw your face, and the light shone through.
But it's life playing tricks, and it wasn't you.
*How can I go on, without you here?
With the world so heavy.
My heart so filled with fear.
I'm not who you think I am.
I'm a ghost hiding in the dark.
Waiting for a glimpse of you to show me where to start.*
It's like I'm outside, looking in.
Unsure how to move and scared of what's to loose.
But there's no winners here, no glorious end.
Just a glass half full, of empty friends.
I'm meant to be the answer,
to have it all figured out.
But I'm trying to see what you see when it's all drenched in doubt.
I'm not who you think I am.
We're not meant to be apart.
I'm waiting for a glimpse of you to show me where to start.
Where to start...
Hidden in the smoke, I was lost for a while...
Wrote my sister a message, asking what I should wear.
I'd met a 6ft burley man, she asked, where?
Said we'd met in the car wash, his shirt got soaking wet,
I was helping him with the sprinkers, when I lost control of the jets...
I asked him out to dinner, and he was taken aback.
Said he'd never been asked out by a woman before, who'd asked him, just like that.
******
Told him to strap in, it's gonna be a wild wild ride
I'm not like those other girls, no, I've got nothing to hide.
I know what I want and tonight it's gonna be you.
So hold on. Hold on. Hold on.
******
My sister wrote back and said just try and go slow.
You've been just too many times, I said I know.
So I wore with this dress with a slit up to my thigh.
Watched him look me up and down with lust in his eyes.
Over the candles, I stroke his leg and pulled him near.
Put my lips softly next to his and whispered in his ear....
(Why do I do this every time?
Take what I want and make it mine?
How was I to know he had another life,
Complete with 2 cats, 2 kids, 1 dog and a beautiful wife...)
My sister said I told you so, over the phone.
Told me to wipe my tears and call when I got home.
But I stopped off at my local bar and had a night cap or to.
Got chatting to this 6ft stud, well what else could I do?
(Inspired by Sylvia Plath and Maya Angelou)
Today, I heard a rumour that girls were taking the world.
And all the boys who can caused injustice were lining up outside to get burnt.
So I put on my best dress, and went outside to dance to the screams.
A small price to pay, for ripping our world at the seams.
- We always thought that you had the power.
But now we're standing strong and we're louder.
We've had enough of you thinking you're right. Can you hear us now, as you're set alight.
Today I heard a rumour that girls were taking over the world....
...undoing decade of pain, the repression and fire returned.
I swirled around in the smoke, singing with my sisters a song.
That we'd chant to our children's children, of how we righted a wrong.
🎵 More coming soon....
